A spin-off from the Roscoff Biological Station, AberActives, a biotech company based in Finistère, is raising new funds to develop its innovative process for extracting ingredients from marine sources. Objective: to raise €1 million to launch pre-industrialisation.
AberActives, a start-up based in Finistère, is innovating in the production of ingredients from seaweed, with an extraction method that is more precise and less energy-intensive than traditional chemical processes. Having validated its technology, the company is now looking to raise €1 million to launch its first small-scale production run. ‘Our biorefinery technique, which uses enzymatic hydrolysis, marks a significant advance in this field, as it enables us to exploit the diversity of natural compounds in algae while minimising the energy and environmental impact,’ explain Robert Larocque and Bernard Kloareg, two of the three co-founders who set up AberActives four years ago in Roscoff (Finistère). The extracted biomolecules, currently targeted for cosmetics and nutraceuticals, have beneficial effects on cell regeneration, wound healing, hydration and dermal health.
